Today we celebrate many important holidays demonstrating essential things necessary to our society, such as National Denim day and National Blueberry Pie day.
Some of the other wonderful holidays of today include National Great Poetry Reading day. So remember: don't read crappy poetry. In addition, it is National Kids and Pets day! That's great! A day to celebrate us!
Today, we will explore the deeper meaning of one of our holidays, National Blueberry Pie day. What I mean to say is that I am adding a new section of the What Holiday is it Today new articles! Its new, official name, is "Expanding Our (Limited) Knowledge: _______ Day".
Before the U.S. became an independent country, Native Americans lived off the land and used blueberries, which were called star berries, as a source of survival. These "star berries" proved more important than you might think. Often, these berries were crushed up and used as a source of nutrients. Some historians even believe that the first English settlers might not have survived their first winter without them.
As the farming industry grew and became more popular, blueberries became less a source of nutrients and more a delicious dessert. However, it was long after that, 1850 to be exact, that the first blueberry pie recipe was recorded, and it was in 1990 that a fifth-grader, Megan Frank, convinced Maine's legislators to make Blueberry pie the official dessert of Maine.
How can you celebrate this beautiful holiday? By making a blueberry pie, of course! And while you're at it, why not make one for a friend who perhaps doesn't have the time to do it themselves?
This was very long, and I'm not sure I'll be able to write this much next time, but I'll try! Also, there should both a comment and subscribe function, so be sure to comment and sign up to get notifications!
